What's the Story
Between 2004 and 2006, California hired almost 16,000 employees in the category of Higher Education. This could explain in part why so many cuts to Higher Education were made during the recent budget crisis.
What's At Stake
$924 million
This amount could pay tuition for about 77,000 UC students. We calculated this amount by multiplying 16,000 employees by $57,800 (the average salary for employees of higher education in California). We calculated the number of UC students by dividing the total by $12,000.
