CCPOA Influence

What's the Story

CCPOA spending has skewed California prison policy, imposing heavy costs on the state. The number of prisoners has grown dramatically in the past 30 years and the cost per prisoner has risen along with skyrocketing correctional officer salaries. Californians should counterbalance the CCPOA influence.

What's At Stake

Public Safety
We need prisons to keep us safe, but CCPOA lobbying has often raised the cost of achieving that objective and resulted in ineffective policies. For example, the number of prisoners has risen because of three-strikes and determinate sentencing, and the cost per prisoner has risen because of exorbitant salaries and benefits.
