California Common Sense's first project was an interactive map of all 3,600+ entities that exist within the executive branch of the California government. This was the first organizational map of its kind (located at http://cacs.org/site/map). This visualization is much simpler, showing the amount of spending and number of employees in eleven major California government agencies. This helps you to understand how much the California state government is spending in different areas.
Instructions: Hover over an icon to see spending and number of employees for that state agency. You can sort the state agencies by state funding or by federal funding using the drop down menu on the right.
Sources: Budget and employee data is found at http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/Enacted/agencies.html. Click on any of the agencies to see more detailed expenditure data and employee data. CACS is not responsible for the accuracy of data received from outside sources. Please email us at info@cacs.org if you believe you have found an error in the visualization.
