How much do public employees make throughout the country?
Instructions: The map shows a dot on states for which data is available and the size is proportional to the number of employees while the color is part of a heat map, darker dots representing higher average pay. Use the drop down menus on the left to normalize the heat map and dot size for state population and cost of living or to select a specific job to compare state employee pay averages for. Use the drop down menus on the right hand side to compare only within specific departments or agencies. Then you can select the particular departments or agencies you are interested in by highlighting or clicking.
Sources: Data for most states comes from public records requests. We have also supplemented our data with data found on delewarespends.org, illinoisopengov.org, maineopengov.org, and nhopengov.org. CACS is not responsible for the accuracy of data received from outside sources. Please email us at email@example.com if you believe you have found an error in the visualization.
