As one of the highest spending cities in California on a total and per capita basis, San Francisco also has one of the highest rates of number of public employees. This visualization allows you to take an in-depth look on how many people are employed within each field of government in San Francisco.
Instructions: The graph on top shows the trends in total number of San Francisco government employees broken down by major categories. Click a dot on the right to see the break down into more specific subcategories for any particular category. This will cause two more graphs to appear below showing the trends in number of employees for each subcategory (such as police, fire, and sheriff, for example, within public protection). Use the drop down menus to see percentages instead of totals and to adjust for population growth.
